Perhaps almost every foreigner imagines that their dreams come true if they come to live in the United States. However, they become so disappointed with its real image unlike their expectation. They suffer from a cultural shock and don¡¯t want to accept a lowered socio-economic status in the new country. In addition, they get along only with people who speak the same language because of the language barrier. When they fall into the same all routine everyday, they lose the last hope to be successful in America and show a stronger desire to go back to their original country. By this time, they believe that Americans are not nice to foreigners and sometimes discriminate against them. Although the above does not apply to everybody, it seems true no matter how long they have lived in the United States.
The news media sometimes reports that American high school students are easily stuck with the calculation unless they are given a calculator. It also adds that they can¡¯t read and write basic English. Those foreign settlers feel pretty happy with the news report. They look around and find lots of Americans work by the hour, not on salary and get arrested for various crimes. To them, Americans appear full of unnecessary nationalism, speaking no foreign language. Overall, they are gradually convinced that America is a living hell.
In the mean time, they run into a totally different kind of American. He listens to their side of the story and tries to understand from their shoe. For that reason, he studies at least one foreign language and is so knowledgeable in his area of specialty. He criticizes his own country and people by saying that Americans are lazy. He simply makes them shocked. When he is asked for his educational background, he is probably a graduate or student of the famous university. So-called, he makes the top one percent of American brain, who maintains America as number one. They occupy over 60 percent of national wealth. They are certainly not dumb no matter how stupid the rest 99 percent of American population is.
